WHAT WE'VE DONE
Since taking office in 2012, we have made great strides to improve the Greenwood community and our quality of life. While there is still much to be done in the years ahead, we’ve accomplished great things. Together, we have a lot to be proud of.
- We have maintained balanced budgets each year since I was elected. It’s vitally important to me that the city lives within its means, just like every Greenwood family must do, and I’m proud to say we have managed balanced budgets for 11 straight years and counting.
- Despite inheriting a $3.5 million deficit, we turned that around into a surplus within a year and currently have the lowest tax rate and lowest spending per capita in the state for a city of our size. This hasn’t always been easy, but we’ve done so resoundingly and with rainy day reserves to spare.
- Fiscal responsibility is the foundation for low taxes, job growth and improved quality of life.
- I have tremendous respect for the brave men and women in public safety, and I’m proud that we have been able to support them.
- Due to strong financial management and a commitment to keeping our communities safe, we have been able to increase the amount of funding allocated to public safety and are continuing to hire and retain more law enforcement officers and firefighters.
- We are providing them with new state-of-the-art equipment and training to do their jobs safely and effectively, and to protect our homes, businesses and families.
- We have made drastic improvements in the infrastructure of our city. When we took office and built a new city building downtown, we signaled our commitment to developing otherwise rundown and vacant areas and making our community thrive.
- What was once a 75% vacant downtown area is now 95% occupied, and the value of surrounding properties has skyrocketed. What was once a drive-through passage is now an attractive destination for businesses, homeowners and family-friendly activities.
- We are the envy of our surrounding neighborhoods and will continue to build upon this success.
